phosphorescent at the southgate house

there were a bunch of good shows happening at the southgate house while we were in town: phosphorescent, carolina chocolate drops, and wolf parade. i opted for mr. glow. southgate house is actually just across the river from downtown cincinnati in newport, ky.

the house was built in 1814 for richard southgate, a rich lawyer dude. somehow it has stayed standing and has been converted into a few different music venues and bars.

the show was in the largest space in the house, the ballroom, which holds 600 people.

opening for phosphorescent was a country folk singer guy i hadn’t heard of named doug paisley. he had a a nice voice and apparently he’s friends with will oldham. the prince sang the last few songs of the set with him.

phosphorescent from above. the balcony wraps around the stage, so there are som spots to get cool views.

the show was good. very mellow. and i always love seeing shows outside of new york, where people come out just because they like the band.
